PLEASE NOTE: Teachings on this website represent completed book studies heard on Pastor Mark's radio program "Come To The Table."
When it comes to Bible teachings, not many people know there's a difference between teaching FROM the Bible vs. teaching THE Bible. This can also be viewed as a Topical teaching vs. an Expositional teaching.
Both "teaching styles" have different goals but they possess the same requirement; studying for both must be done exegetically.
Topical teachings at its base term takes a "topic" and makes a teaching out of it. Let's be clear there's nothing wrong with topical teachings as they can be very useful in putting together what God is saying on a particular subject and sharing it as a single teaching or in a series of teachings.
The biggest problem with topical teachings being the mainstay diet of a congregation is if your mainstay diet is topical teachings, the pastor has the control to stay away from subjects that might be controversial or offend, or stick with topics you personally like or are comfortable with.
As Paul shared "For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God" in Acts 20:27, we learn there is an importance in receiving ALL of God's Word.
Pastor Mark will occasionally prepare for and share a topical teaching, but as you'll quickly learn going through the Bible line by line and verse by verse, "topics" are always coming up!
Receiving a balanced diet from God's Word (those "chocolate sundaes" as well as the "broccoli") will make us a balanced Christian!
